It’s become that time of year when I start twitching to open up Gilmore Girls on Netflix and start binging. Although this fall began on a rocky start, there’s still time to get into the fall spirit and enjoy the holidays. Although Florida does not display a traditional fall- leaves changing color, apple picking, fireplaces, etc- there’s still classic basics that emulate the fall aesthetic.
Fall Flavored Drinks: Enjoying a yummy drink while doing anything makes my mood infinitely better. Whether you’re a coffee, matcha or tea person, fall-flavored drinks will never fail to raise your spirits. Although there is a popular stigma towards pumpkin spice flavoring fall doesn’t necessarily always mean pumpkin, it could be apple, cinnamon, chai, caramel and more. A local coffee place, The Blend, features fall flights including brown butter vanilla, peach cobbler and caramel pecan coffee.
Pumpkin Carving: Pumpkin carving is a classic fall activity, and I’m sad to see that it’s much more popular in the north and most people don’t do it here. Pumpkin carving is such a fun and creative activity, and you don’t need to be an artist for it either. Partly why people don’t do it here is due to concern about rotting, but it can last at least 3-7 days here after carving especially if you store it inside and remove the pulp.
Thrifting for Halloween Costumes: Assembling a Halloween costume is one of the best parts of fall however it can often be put off until the last-minute leaving people to resort to Amazon and Spirit Halloween for quick costumes. Instead, pick who you want to be early, and then you can enjoy finding all the pieces of your costume. Thrifting is already an entertaining activity to do with friends and you can often find unusual clothing/accessories which are perfect for a Halloween costume.
Trader Joes Haul + Fall sleepover: This is one of my favorite activities because I love Trader Joes and if they do one thing well, it’s Fall. They have an assortment of fall snacks and drinks that are perfect to grab for a fun fall sleepover with a friend. They also have really good baking mixes like the pumpkin bread one or cinnamon roll blondies that are fun to make with friends.
Amusement Parks: If you’re not a fan of the cozier fall aesthetic, Florida is home to a variety of amusement parks. When fall rolls around they each have a different horror attraction that is guaranteed to be entertaining. There’s Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios and Screamaggedon in Dade City. Personally, if you’re looking to just have some fun and not have a serious scare I would recommend Howl-O-Scream, but if you’re a big horror fan Halloween Horror Nights and Screamaggedon are definitely more intense.
