A new school year means new clubs to join. Have you always wanted a new chess partner? Or someone as dedicated as you to growing a garden? Fortunately for you, Robinson hosts a vast variety of clubs to choose from, all run by students. On Aug. 27, club leaders lined their boards up at the lunch table to find more like-minded students to join their group. If you missed the club fair, here is a look at the brand new clubs this year for you to join.
International Food Club
Do you love trying new foods from all around the world? Well this could be your opportunity to push your palate. Club founder Eleanor Whitwan (’27) created the club to engage with other people who are also interested in other cultures.
“This club fills the role of a social yet informational club where people can explore different cultures through food,” Whitwan said.
Students can learn about various cultures and their knowledge while sharing about their own cultures as well.
“My main goal is to have people enjoy trying new foods just as much as I do through this club,” Whitwan said.
The International Food Club has been growing steadily.
“We are making sure to have international inclusion and not be focused on just one culture. We have big holiday-related plans for the cultures coming up,” Whitwam said.
Project Linus
Are you interested in gaining volunteer hours for an important cause? Project Linus, a service-oriented club, was started by Juniors Lillian Walker and Sophie Evers to advocate and fundraise for their organization.
“Our club aims to fill a gap of students helping with kids who may not be as fortunate as they are. It acts as a very good opportunity for students to give back to the community and help kids at hospitals feel a sense of home,” Evers said.
Project Linus is already a national organization that the two felt connected to and wanted to implement at Robinson.
“Our main goals are to hold blanket drives and fundraisers so we can make as many blankets as possible,” Evers said.
With around 50 members already joining, Project Linus has big plans for this upcoming school year.
“We are planning to host a blanket drive soon,” Evers said.
LIFT
Upset that there aren’t many opportunities to “play” outside like how you used to? LIFT (Leading Individuals Forward Together) started at Robinson in hopes of getting more kids outside and “playing” again.
“We were inspired by the kids of today. Our goal is to get them outside playing with the other kids in their community.” Co-Founder Avery Graham (’27) said.
The club is centered around outdoor activity, but is not limited to just playing.
“I think this club is very unique as it combines physical activities like sports and games with community service and volunteer opportunities,” Graham said.
The club has big plans to better our school.
“Our main goals this year are to grow the club both in the school and out in the community, and make a difference in our community,” Graham said.
Robinson opens many opportunities for anyone and everyone. Finding people who share the same interests is important in your intellectual growth. Reach out to any of these clubs if you are interested, and you might just find a community of people just like you.
