Mariah Carey And Michael Buble go head to head… which artist holds the Christmas crown?

Lindsey Chadwick, Opinion Editor

As soon as the clock hit 12 a.m. on Nov. 1, I went into complete Christmas mode. Christmas music was blaring in my car as I drove to school that morning. And, you would never guess what my go-to Christmas song would be.

Like many and many others, my all-time favorite Christmas song is “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey. Come on… it’s a classic. As soon as I hear that piano start to play its tune I immediately get into a cheery mood.

In my opinion, Carey is just superior when it comes to singing Christmas songs. I just don’t know how anyone else could think any different. Her voice and the lyrics are just perfect. There is no other explanation. They are simply perfect.

I could not get tired of hearing her sing “All I Want for Christmas is You”. In the beginning, it is slow and soft. Then, all of a sudden some jingle bells and drums come into the song. With the combination of Carey’s voice and the background singers, it just makes me smile.

This song is better than a lot of the other Christmas tunes because it is more modern. It’s not childish, like “Frosty the Snowman” by Michael Bublé. It’s not slow and fancy-sounding like “The Christmas Song” by Nat King Cole. It is upbeat, with good lyrics and has a perfectly designed mixture of drums, bells and the piano.

Another reason why Carey is superior is because of the Christmas vibes this song gives off. It is full of joy which is just what Christmas is all about. It feels homey and puts me in the Christmas state of mind. Also, She is basically a Christmas singing goddess. What else do you think of when you hear her name?

Now I don’t want to degrade any of the other artists who sing Christmas songs because honestly, all Christmas songs are good. But, Mariah Carey surpasses them to the max. The way her voice matches immaculately with all the instruments is what makes her so good. When I hear her voice, I just know I am in for a treat.
