If you asked me two years ago if I thought I’d be an event and team manager for the school newspaper with a whole class of some of the best people in the school, I’d think you were crazy. Having been homeschooled up until junior year, I struggled to find something to connect me to my peers and school. One of my classmates recommended I join the newspaper, and after some convincing and schedule changes, I realized quickly that newspaper was the best decision I could have made.
Newspaper gave me excuses to go to the movies, chances to interview and get to know my classmates better and gave me the confidence to mature into a person ready to take on college. From running down the football field trying to get pictures, laughing in the hallways after the FSPA dance and struggling together over pitch, newspaper taught me more than how to write and edit in AP style (though I still struggle to this day). It taught me how to lead, how to take pride in what I can do and encouraged me to strive for what I deserve.
I’m forever grateful for my teachers and classmates and how they changed me for the better; I hope that newspaper continues to help people realize their potential, like it did for me.
