Robinson was named an A school for the third year in a row this morning, making it one of nine high schools in the county who earned the state’s highest ranking.

High schools, unlike elementary and middle schools, are graded on more than FCAT scores; graduation rate, college readiness, which is judged by SAT scores, AP/IB/Dual enrollment pass rate and the amount of college credit students earn also factor into scoring.

Based on this, a high school can earn a maximum of 1600 points. Robinson earned 1211.

“I’m very proud of our students and their effort, and our teachers and their dedication to what they do,” said Principal Johnny Bush.

The school’s grade has been rising since 2003, when it earned a D. Since Bush became the principal in Spring 2012, the school has not received a grade below an A.

Bush also congratulated Plant, who got its first B in four years in 2013, for making the A grade this year. Plant earned 1364, the highest number of points in the district.

Robinson and Plant were the only two South Tampa high schools with A’s in 2014.

Statewide, school grades declined due to a harsher grading scale.  In 2013, 83% of Florida high schools received an A or B, but the number dropped to 71% in 2014.  Plant High School ranked 32nd, the highest ranked Hillsborough County school in the state. Robinson ranked 121st.
