In wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the day to day operation of schooling has changed, affecting families and teachers. RHSToday asked principal Robert Bhoolai some questions about how the school is responding to the situation.

Q: Will students be able to come back to the school to get things they may have left in their lockers or classrooms?

A: As of now, students are not permitted to return to campus.  Custodial staff is working diligently to deep clean the school.  Teachers understand students are not permitted to return to campus, and as such, they are remaining flexible with their assignments.

Q: At this time, will the school year still end at the same time or will it be extended at all?

A: At this time the school year is scheduled to end at the same time.

Q: At this time, will graduation ceremonies and prom still take place?

A: We are still committed to graduation.  I do not have specific details on any other events after April at this time.  With the spread of COVID-19, information is being updated daily.

Q: Are teachers still responsible for taking attendance? If so, how are they expected to do so?

A: Teachers are still responsible for taking attendance.  They will take attendance in several ways.  Please consult the eLearning guide released by HCPS.  It outlines different ways in which teachers can take attendance.  I would encourage students to work in Edsby daily.

Q: What is your expectation of students right now?

A: Now is the time for our students to show their “Pride Through Excellence”.  This is a very unfortunate circumstance, especially for our Seniors.  I believe in each and every one of you, and I know we will get through this together.  Show your Knight pride and keep working toward your goals.  We are in this together, and we will do whatever it takes to support you during this time.  Communication is crucial!  Please reach out to your teachers early and often.  They are here for you and can connect you with any resources you may require.  We miss you all and are looking forward to the day our young Knights can return to Camelot.

Q: How many devices has Robinson handed out to students who need them and did we have enough for everyone? If not do we have a waitlist?

A: As of today we have issued 175 laptops.  We do not have a waitlist at this time.

Q: Is the school currently getting deep cleaned?

A: Yes. This process will take several weeks to accomplish.

Q: Since Robinson is now a feeding site, how is that working?

A: We started our Grab and Go service today.  Parents are welcomed to have a breakfast and lunch one time per day for each student in their vehicle.  The service is open from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday-Friday.  We have served a few families, and hope to serve many more.

Q: How are you and your family doing during all of this?

A: As a principal, I am heartbroken for my students and staff.  I miss the familiar faces, smiles and accomplishments being shared with us.  I am hopeful that our students have the tools they need to be successful, and are confident in our abilities to support them regardless of their physical location.  I know Knight nation is strong and proud.  I have fielded messages from parents, community members and businesses looking to support our school.  We are truly Uknighted, and that makes me proud.

As a parent, I couldn’t be more pleased with the communication and planning on the part of the district.  This situation is ever-evolving and I believe my daughters’ schools and the district have worked tirelessly to inform, educate and support parents that are experiencing eLearning for the first time.  I am confident in the lessons and activities we have completed thus far, and look forward to creating new memories with my girls.
