With the school year quickly coming to an end, the Robinson Class of 2022 Graduation will be held on Monday, May 23 at 8:30 a.m. Taking place at the Expo Center on the Florida State Fairgrounds, it’s the first in-person graduation since before the pandemic in 2019.
“I’m anticipating a lot of excited graduates and families,” Assistant Principal of Administration Kailyn Morman said. “[I’m] happy to celebrate the moment in person.”
Since this event is taking place on a school day, the Robinson administration has taken it into consideration by moving around this year’s exam schedule and holding this day as a “hold harmless” attendance day. Admin suggests students take this day to stay home and study for their exams if they are not attending the Graduation ceremony.
“If a student is absent this day, it will not count against them. We do not want students to have to choose between missing instruction and celebrating with their relative or friend,” Interim Principal David Brown said in a statement.
Caps cannot be decorated or thrown and one must follow the guidelines for attire. All student debt has to be paid off as well.
Graduates are also only given eight tickets for guests. Masks are not required, but those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are recommended to stay home, as the ceremony will be streamed live on Hillsborough Schools TV. Students are also advised to organize carpools due to the $8 per car parking charge.
“I’m super excited to see all my friends and classmates in person at graduation. A lot of family members are coming to support me and I’m infinitely grateful to all of them,” IB Salutatorian Priya Sambasvian said. “I also can’t wait to have my diploma in my hands. Even though I won’t get my IB diploma for a few months, I’m eagerly awaiting the gratification of receiving my diploma on stage in front of everyone who has supported me throughout the past four years and my whole life. “
