The Robinson culinary class’s Knights Tavern has recently revived their coffee selling operation after a yearlong hiatus, and it is as popular as ever.
Their sales according to Mercedes Pepple, one of the stand’s operators, “I’d say we sold between $80 to $100,” Pepple said. “Because yesterday we sold 41 to 42 cups.”
The Knights Tavern had to move out of its original building during the rebuilding of the main building during 2022-2023. After its completion, they put a hold on coffee sales as they transferred into their new kitchen.
“We sold it when we were in the portables,” explained Janice Michner, another operator and member of Culinary Leadership. “We kind of stopped because we had to figure out our tavern situation.”
However, after the culinary kitchen has settled down into its new spot, the demand for coffee was still high so they decided to capitalize on it and reopen its café to the school once more.
“We realized a lot of people missed the coffee,” Michner said. “It also made us a really good profit.”
The money that culinary collects from coffee sales goes into funding events, parties, and getting new supplies.
The coffee stand currently sells basic coffee but offers a moderate selection of ways to add-on to your morning pick-me-up.
“It’s just regular coffee, but we offer a ton of different flavorings,” said Kirsten River, a culinary student who works the coffee stand.
They hope that they will be able to add a wider range of selection of caffeinated drinks and customization to their menu in the future.
The culinary coffee stand is in the Culinary Classroom located in room A143, between the main office and the language hall. open to all students from 7:50a.m. to 8:20a.m. on Tuesdays through Fridays. A cup of coffee is $2.
