Due to both Hurricane Helene during late September and Hurricane Milton in early October, many students have voiced their woes that there isn’t enough time in the first quarter to achieve the grades they want. Because of this, Hillsborough County Public Schools has extended the end of the first quarter from Oct. 11 to Oct. 25. Although being an extension of only seven school days, it will give students the time they need to get their grades in-check.
In a press release, HCPS announced the reasons for the change.
“District Officials have decided to extend the first quarter to Friday, Oct. 25, giving students adequate instructional time to complete the grading period. Our academic services team is reviewing the calendar to determine necessary adjustments to make up the required instructional time, and we will be communicating that at a later date.”
Robinson administration agrees with the extension.
“At the end of the day, we want to give the proper seat time for students, as required by the state in each quarter,” Assistant Principal for Curriculum Administration, Christopher Pettit said. “So that’s why it was extended. To help teachers wrap up where they’re at, kind of help get grades in.”
