Is Disney Ending Their Netflix Deal a Good Decision?

Netflix asking me if I’m still here after binge watching shows for hours on end is a common occurrence, especially when I’m procrastinating doing my homework. Since Netflix has 93.8 million customers, chances are it has happened to you too. To me, the best things to watch on Netflix are Disney movies.

Netflix and Disney are two major parts of modern culture, and since September 2016, we have been able to enjoy Disney-owned movies on Netflix. This is all coming to an end in 2019, when Disney will pull its movies from Netflix and start it’s own streaming service with just Disney content.

CEO of Disney Bob Iger told CNBC that, “Disney had a good relationship with Netflix.” Iger said that Pixar films will be removed from the streaming service too.

It’s not all bad news though, as Marvel and Lucasfilms movies are in talks to stay on Netflix. Also, the Marvel shows Disney made with Netflix will remain.

Frozen 2 and Toy Story 4 will be two of the major movies Disney plans on having on the streaming service, along with the rest of their movies and Disney Channel shows.  It is still unknown how much it will cost, but with Disney’s history of over-priced material, it will probably be expensive.

Disney separating from Netflix may not be a good idea. Many people are already bouncing from Hulu to Amazon to Netflix to watch all their shows, as online streaming is more popular than ever. Disney’s streaming service will simply be another bill to pay, and will enough people be willing to pay for it? Not to mention online pirating, which many people turn to when paying for the movies they want to watch is simply too much.

Until 2019, we are still able to enjoy Disney on Netflix. Here are the top 5 Disney movies you should watch before they are taken off.

  1. Moana
  2. Zootopia
  3. Finding Dory
  4. High School Musical
  5. Lilo and Stitch
