As the littered wrappers of candy on the streets decrease and fall decor leaves stores, the faint smell of my “Balsam Trees” candle begins to flood my room- it’s my favorite time of year, and I can’t wait a second longer.
The only thing that keeps me going through the year is the reassurance that it’ll soon be Christmas time and immediately after Halloween passed, I changed my bedsheets to spread holiday cheer and put up my mini-Christmas tree in my room to start getting in the spirit. While I am an appreciator of the fall season, my fall season lasts through the month of October and once Nov. 1 hits, it’s Christmas all the way.
Many argue that they celebrate Christmas too early so when is the right time? Personally, I think people can start celebrating whenever they’d like after Halloween. Christmas brings a wave of nostalgia through me that I enjoy holding onto so that may be the reason I watch The Polar Express all year round as I await the holiday season.
While many might not agree with this notion of celebrating early, many businesses seem to agree with this time frame as you start to see holiday decor and gifts out in retail stores during Halloween time which should tell you something, it’s Christmas. It hurts not a single soul to celebrate Christmas early so why judge?
For me, as a student especially, Christmas is something that brings joy and all around good energy to my life. With it being my senior year in IB I have been beyond swamped with college applications, homework assignment after homework assignment and extracurriculars; Christmas is an escape from all the madness. Being able to put on a holiday movie like Elf or How The Grinch Stole Christmas and snuggle up with a peppermint hot chocolate is one of the best feelings ever.
I say don’t judge that person who puts up decorations early and instead allow them to spread their holiday cheer a little early.
Like the boy said in The Polar Express, “Though I’ve grown old, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe.”
