Two tough opponents into the season, Robinson found themselves sitting with an 0-2 record heading into district play. Jefferson came into Friday night fresh off their heartbreaking loss to Hillsborough last week.

The two teams fought through a sloppy first half, with the Knights leading 7-3 after two quarters. They managed to hang onto the lead until late in the third quarter when Jefferson fought their way back to a 24-7 win.

Robinson got their points on Anfernee Alston’s 10-yard touchdown run with 11:31 to go in the second quarter. Alston finished the night with 66 yards rushing and the touchdown.

After managing just a 22-yard field goal in the first half, the Dragons scored their first touchdown with 2:01 left in the third. The score came on a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Cade Weldon after a facemask penalty was called on the Knights earlier in the drive.

Jefferson extended their lead to 17-7 with 7:24 left in the game, this time scoring on Weldon’s 9-yard touchdown pass to Taj Jenkins. Weldon threw for 90 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Defensive back Ernest Mills put the exclamation point on Jefferson’s victory with 1:29 left in the game when he intercepted Malik Tyson’s pass and returned it 76 yards for a touchdown.

Robinson (0-3) faces Armwood at home next week.
