For the fifth time in the last five years, Robinson (19-8) took the district championship after rolling through the district playoffs. One night after sweeping Spoto (1-12) in three sets, the Lady Knights swept Middleton (7-9) by scores of 25-7, 25-12 and 25-12.

“I think it speaks volumes to the dedication and hard work of our players from year to year,” said Lady Knights head coach Christen Garcia. “I think people are starting to realize we can compete at a higher level. It used to be ‘oh it’s just Robinson’ but people are starting to recognize the team as more of a threat.”

Rebecca Hill (’16) finished the night with 25 assists while fellow senior captain Catia Sleet (’16) hit .590 with 16 kills. Elly Frierson (’18) added seven kills on eight attacks and six aces.  Emily Draper (’17) totaled nine digs and five aces.

“We’ve really been working on how to play an overall smarter game and limit our errors,” said Garcia. “We used to focus a lot on skill and technique, but with the experience of the team we’ve been able to implement strategies against specific opponents.”

That strategy will next be put to the test when the Lady Knights host Desoto County (9-17) on Tuesday night in the regional quarterfinals. Robinson is looking for a third straight trip to the state final four, needing three more wins to get there.
