Spring Sports Update: 3/28-4/1

Baseball

The Knights (12-6) led Blake 5-0 in the third inning on Wednesday night before the game was postponed due to the field lights not working. The game will be resumed on Saturday at 1 p.m., picking up where the game was when it was called. On Thursday at Plant, Robinson fought through a pitchers’ duel with the Panthers, eventually scoring four runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-2 lead. A 3-run home run by Connor Scott (’18) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh tied the game before Plant walked off with a win in the eighth.

Softball

The Lady Knights improved to 8-0 in district play on Wednesday with a 20-2 victory over Blake. Samantha Conlan (’17) and Jordan McDaniel (’17) both picked up two hits as the team wrapped up district play. Robinson fell to Plant on Thursday by a score of 3-1, with Cassidy Renninger (’18) throwing six solid innings. She allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four.

Boys Lacrosse

Robinson dropped Tuesday’s game at Freedom by a score of 14-3 before wrapping up the season on Thursday against Durant with a 13-4 loss.

Girls Lacrosse

Robinson finished up the regular season this week with a 16-6 win on Tuesday at Freedom and a 9-5 loss on Thursday against Durant. The Lady Knights finished with a 10-4 record and will now prepare for the district tournament, which starts on Tuesday against Tampa Catholic.

Boys Tennis

Robinson finished second in the Class 2A-District 10 tournament, beating out Tampa Catholic on Wednesday by a score of 4-3. After finishing 3-2 in singles play, the team needed a win in one of the two doubles matches. Michael Marinskiy (’16) and Josh Richardson (’16) came away with a win in no. 1 doubles to send the Knights to next Tuesday’s regional semifinals at Lake Wales.

Girls Tennis

Robinson won the Class 2A-District 10 championship on Tuesday, beating out Tampa Catholic and Academy of the Holy Names in the finals. Elliott Peterson (’19) and Ashley Osiason (’18) won first in no. 1 doubles, Alex Rice (’16) and Bianca Dyer (’16) won first in no. 2 doubles and Osiason, Dyer, Rice and Catherine Liu (’19) each took first place in their respective singles matches. The team will play in the regional semifinals next Tuesday.

Boys Track

Qualifying athletes competed at the Vernon Kohn County Championships Tuesday at Jefferson High School. Scoring finishers are as followers: Dannys Marrero (’16), fifth in the 1600m run with a 4:38.87; Christian Pete (’16), sixth in the 200m dash with a 23.28; Keldric Preston (’16), fourth in the discus with a 118-08.50 and eighth in the shot put with a 43-01.75; and Almosse Titi (’18), sixth in the discus with a 113-11.50.

Girls Track

Qualifying athletes competed at the Vernon Kohn County Championships Tuesday at Jefferson High School. Scoring finishers are as followers: Jayla Walker (’17), eighth in the 100m dash with a 13.20; April Ryckman (’17), sixth in the 400m dash with a 1:01.27; and the girls 4x800m relay, fifth with a 10:24.38.

Flag Football

Robinson picked up two more wins this week, improving to 5-0 on the year. On Monday, the Knights beat Leto on the road by a score of 45-6 before shutting out Hillsborough on Thursday by a score of 53-0. The team will head up the road on Monday for a rivalry matchup at Plant.
