Following last year’s losing record of 3-6, the Knights start off with a clean slate against Leto tonight.

It will be the first time the Knights have played the Falcons since 2014 where they won with a score 35-6. Robinson head coach Shawn Taylor is excited for the home opener crowd.

“It’s always exciting to open at home with the band and the Starlets and all the things that go into it.,” Taylor said.  “You get to see what eight months of hard work that you put in the off season pays off.”

Captian Chase Volpi (’18) is also looking forward to starting the season at home.

“I’m excited we’ll be able to get a good game under our belt before the Plant game,” Volpi said.

The Knights fell to Tampa Catholic last week in their lone preseason game. Leto also lost last week and has only won one game the last two seasons. The Falcons seem to be an easy hurdle for the Knights before the much-anticipated Plant rivalry game.

The football team is not the only group who is anticipating tonight’s game. The cheerleaders, Starlets and marching band prepare all summer for the first night at Jack Peters Field.

“I’m excited. I think it’s a big event. It’s our first home game,” Marching Knights tuba player Alessandra Rivera (’20) said. “It’s the first time freshman get to be in that atmosphere I think it’s a good experience”

Robinson opens regular season play against Leto High School tonight. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jack Peters Field (6311 S Lois Ave, Tampa, FL 33616).
