On Thursday, February 28, the Lady Knights beat South Tampa rival Plant for the third consecutive year, mercy ruling the Panthers 11-1.

“I think the whole team did well. It takes all 17 players to pull off a win, especially against Plant,” right fielder Rachel Clark (’20) said.

Robinson hit well as a whole, but two players, Shelby Schoonmaker (’21) and Rachel Clark, batted 1,000. Both players helped score 6 of the 11 scored points.

With zero home runs hit, the RBI total was split between 7 players.

In the first inning, neither Robinson or Plant scored any runs. Robinson was the first team to score, with an RBI in the bottom of the second inning. Robinson continued to score 3 more runs in the third, Plant had yet to put any runs on the board.

Jocelyn Campo (’22) opened the game pitching and in the top of the fourth, she gave up plant’s only run.

In the bottom of the fifth, Robinson scored six runs, making it the highest scoring inning of the game. Robinson was now ahead 10-1.

Olivia Van Zandt (’21) closed out the game pitching and Plant didn’t score again.

“I held them at the end and they scored no runs, so i felt pretty good about my performance,” Van Zandt said.

Robinson mercy ruled Plant after the end of the sixth inning, with a final score of 11-1. The team celebrated their third straight win against school-rival Plant.

“It was a really good feeling to be able to close out the game,” Van Zandt said.” I liked being able to help my team out to win.”
