On Dec. 8, the Robinson Knights faced the Sickles Gryphons in their fifth home game. Last year, the Knights suffered a loss against the Gryphons but this year’s game flipped the switch.
The Knights performed an overall solid game, especially in their defense. In the first half of the game, Andy DeVries (’25) scored a free-kick goal gaining the Knights a lead of 1-0. Throughout the game, Matthew Sackenheim (’26) performed 10 saves but during the second half was unsuccessful on one Gryphon kick that evened the score to 1-1.
As the game’s tension heightened, the ball was in the Knights’s half. Leyton Perkey (’24) executed a solid clearance that the Gryphons thought to be out. However, the referees disagreed and called the ball in. Jay Maurer (’26) then ran the ball and scored putting the Knights up 2-1. With not much time left, the Knights took the win against the Gryphons.
“They had a great game, and we just ended up getting some good chances. We just made sure to finish,” Maurer said.
