On Wednesday, Jan. 8, the Robinson Cheer team competed at the Western Conference Qualifier. Hosted at Plant High School, over 10 schools participated, including Alonso, Jefferson, Sickles and Steinbreiner. The Knights earned third place, qualifying for the Western this Thursday Bloomingdale.
The cheerleaders placed third with a score of 80.3. Cheerleading Head Coach “Bri” Godfrey said this score will be used as motivation for this Thursday’s competition.
“It’s hard, because we are obviously excited to go, and we all we wanted was to advance, but we didn’t perform to our best ability. Regardless, we are going to use that third place and use it for the real state championship,” Godfrey said. “Last year we placed second. So [the cheer team has] the full ability to do all the skills. They can do the routine and they can do it well. It’s their mental game…the confidence to do it in a crowd and not crack. We’re going to work on mental strength, and just like repping it so it’s memory.”
