There were high hopes for the Wrestling Team going into the Boys’ Tournament on Thursday, Jan 16. Many student wrestlers and even the coaches were confident that the Boys team would move onto States, but despite their hard work and perseverance, most of the team didn’t make it.
“I would honestly say we could’ve done better. We had the chance to go to State Duels. We did beat Hudson which was really good. I mean I did what I had to do,” Wrestling Captain Arron McCarty (’26) said. “Coach Montero was really intimate, saying that we had a moment to make history here. That’s why I felt that there was a lot of disappointment after, especially with me, since I won both my matches, and then seeing that we still didn’t make it, was a little disappointing.”
The Boys team has had their fair share of wins and losses, but their continued hard work has allowed them to have a decent season despite this particular loss. The season isn’t over for the Boys and Girls Wrestling Teams, as those who won their matches last Thursday will go to individual State Competitions on Tuesday, Jan 21.
