    Five Questions with Peteranecz

Mrs. Peteranecz is new to the Robinson teaching staff this year. She teachers IB English.

Why did you choose to become a teacher?

I became an English major, then I decided to teach. I shadowed Virginia’s Teacher of the Year in 1983 in a small middle school in southwest Virginia. I loved it and decided that driving used cars and shopping at Goodwill for the rest of my life was a good bargain for doing this kind of work.

    What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is to teach what I love in as interesting and active and relevant way as possible. I pay attention to the data, but I am more interested in changing someone’s life through what we read and discuss and write. I am so proud of the students that I have taught who went on to become English majors themselves as undergraduates before going on to careers in medicine or law.

How will you prepare students for standardized assessments?

To prepare for standardized assessments, I model and model and model and model and model and model…

What interests you about this job?

I am interested in teaching in a different community with more access to resources.

What are your goals for the next two years?

My goals for the next two years are to do a century ride, visit Budapest, see my first grandchild and attend my daughter’s graduation from college.
