Editor’s note the following review contains spoilers for “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train” but no actual spoilers from the second season.

On Sunday, Dec. 5, the second season for “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” was released. Currently, seven episodes have been issued, but it is expected to release 13 episodes in all.

A dark fantasy anime that was released in 2019, the series revolves around a young boy who begins his quest to turn his sister back into a human after having the Demon King slaughter his family and turn his sister into a demon.

Before season two, the movie “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train” was released, which ends with Kyōjurō Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, fighting the third Kizuki, Akaza, after the Mugen Train crash. Tanjiro Kamado, the protagonist, and his friends were exhausted after taking down the demon that possessed the Mugen Train. This led Rengoku to risk his life protecting them. However, Rengoku was killed by Akaza after the fight.

I distinctly remember crying my eyes out at the end of the movie. Rengoku was such a warm-hearted person filled with spirit and it hurt to see him go.

To me, season two was a lot different than the first because of how much Tanjiro improved in his techniques and fighting. My favorite part of this season is when Tanjiro and the boys had to disguise themselves as women. It was really funny to see them argue and complain. After a while, I was surprised about how well they got used to it. Even the most hard-headed character, Inosuke Hashibira, did amazing with pretending to be a woman, putting aside his dislike for the disguise and having the mission fully in mind.

The animation in this was also so much smoother and everything was more detailed and explicit. New characters with interesting personalities were even introduced, making the plot very interesting and exciting.

Overall, I would definitely rate this season a 10/10. Usually, second seasons do not really appease me, but this one changed my mind. From good quality animation and plot to astounding characters, I would very much recommend this anime to anyone.
