The release of BLACKPINK’s new album had a lot of blinks (BLACKPINK fans) wondering if their comeback was worth it. As a personal blink since 2018, I had to agree with the negative opinions that they have been receiving for their new album release. It was noticeable that their new songs were lacking effort and creativity compared to their old albums before they started their solo ones.
Another factor to point out is that the group bonding among the members has been slowly fading away; they have all been gradually distancing from one another, unlike their old debut days. It has been more obvious as their stage performances have been crossing all social media platforms. Though it is heartbreaking seeing them having their own boundaries now, remembering that they are all now grown adults and no longer need to depend on one another serves as a reminder of a part of maturing. This is BLACKPINK’s last album release, but many other blinks, including me, were expecting more than what we got originally.
Across platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Twitter, many fans have been sharing similar opinions about the album. Some blinks mentioned that the songs felt rushed or basic, especially when compared to their older hits that had stronger energy and more memorable concepts. I also noticed that for their newer tracks, they have been trying to incorporate English words, but it sounds weird and out of concept.
Others pointed out that the choreography and stage performances seemed less synchronized than before, which made the difference even more noticeable to longtime fans. During their early years, the group always looked extremely bonded on stage, with powerful performances that felt exciting and full of passion. Now, many fans feel that the energy is not the same as it used to be.
Another common comment from blinks is that the members seem more focused on their individual careers since their solo activities became more successful. While it is completely understandable for each member to grow and pursue their own opportunities, it has also made fans feel like the group dynamic has changed. In the past, their interactions felt more natural and playful, which made fans feel connected to them as a group. Now the atmosphere sometimes feels more professional than personal.
Even with these criticisms, many blinks still appreciate the group and everything they have achieved throughout their career being together. Their music, performances and influence helped shape modern K-pop and inspired millions of fans around the world. Although this album may not have met every fan’s expectation, it still represents the closing chapter of BLACKPINK.
