Over the past couple of months, gas has been the most centered topic of discussion across the world due to its high prices. Many people have shown great concern throughout the course of these months as prices have continued to increase. This isn’t only affecting America, but is a worldwide problem as many other countries have also been dealing with the same issue. As gas prices rise, the impact becomes more noticeable in everyday life, especially for those who rely heavily on transportation.
This issue has forced people to rethink their daily routines, limit travel, and spend more of their income just to afford basic necessities like getting to work or school. This situation has negatively affected specifically college students with, low-income, and highly depend on their cars. Most college students often balance school, jobs, and other responsibilities. Yet, now on top of that, they have to deal with higher gas prices, making it harder to manage without having financial stress at such a young age. Many students already struggle with tuition, books, and living expenses, so the added burden of expensive gas only makes things more difficult.
“OMG gas prices are getting higher next week; I don’t have any more money to spare,” Tran Van (’26) said.
In other countries across Asia, the rise in gas prices is even more difficult due to residents there earning less money each day compared to people in the United States. For drivers who rely on jobs such as taxis, ride shares, or delivery services, paying for gas has become a major struggle. These workers depend on driving to make a living, yet the cost of fuel continues to take up a larger portion of what they earn. For example, a taxi or Rideshare driver may work long hours but still end up with very little profit after paying for gas. This situation forces many drivers to either raise their prices, taking risks losing customers or continue working under stressful condition just to make enough to survive.
To be concluded, the increase in gas prices has taken a tow on many lives and has significantly been inconvenient and bringing a financial burden for people in other countries who are already earning low daily wages.
