Christmas is comin’ to town!
With the holidays in our backyard, what better time to make some holiday-themed cookies? These sugar cookies are scrumptious by themselves, but why not spice them up a little bit with some decorations. These cookies are fun to do with friends or family! In fact, I made these beautiful cookies with one of my friends and we had a blast decorating them!
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- cookie pan
- aluminum foil
- holiday cookie cutters
- roller
- flat pan/surface
- icing/ frosting
- food coloring (or colored frosting)
Cookie Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
- Line a pan with aluminum foil and set it off to the side.
- In a small bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, stir together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Once everything is mixed together, roll out the cookie dough onto a flat pan/surface with parchment paper. Make sure to put some flour on the paper and on the roller so the dough doesn’t stick.
- After rolling out the cookie dough, use the cookie cutters to make different shapes out of the dough.
- Put the cutouts on the pan with the aluminum foil.
- Once all the dough is gone, or the pan is filled up, put the cookies in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden.
- Let the cookies stand on the cookie sheet for two minutes before decorating.
Decorating Instructions:
- Once the cookies are cooled, it is time to decorate!
- If you have colored icing, then you can easily start decorating your cookies however you would like.
- If you don’t have colored icing, you will have to use food coloring to dye the icing how you would like.
- Start by separating your icing into different piles so you can have multiple different color icings.
- Then, put the dye into the icing and mix it together. Then, you are ready to decorate!
These cookies were so tasty and really fun to make. It is a great activity to do with friends! One thing that I recommend doing, is making sure your cookies are completely cooled, and purchasing colored icing to save all the extra hassle.
