Christmas is comin’ to town!

With the holidays in our backyard, what better time to make some holiday-themed cookies? These sugar cookies are scrumptious by themselves, but why not spice them up a little bit with some decorations. These cookies are fun to do with friends or family! In fact, I made these beautiful cookies with one of my friends and we had a blast decorating them!

Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • cookie pan
  • aluminum foil
  • holiday cookie cutters
  • roller
  • flat pan/surface
  • icing/ frosting
  • food coloring (or colored frosting)

Cookie Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Line a pan with aluminum foil and set it off to the side.
  3. In a small bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, stir together the butter and sugar until smooth.
  5. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  6. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
  7. Once everything is mixed together, roll out the cookie dough onto a flat pan/surface with parchment paper. Make sure to put some flour on the paper and on the roller so the dough doesn’t stick.
  8. After rolling out the cookie dough, use the cookie cutters to make different shapes out of the dough.
  9. Put the cutouts on the pan with the aluminum foil.
  10. Once all the dough is gone, or the pan is filled up, put the cookies in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden.
  11.  Let the cookies stand on the cookie sheet for two minutes before decorating.

Decorating Instructions:

  1. Once the cookies are cooled, it is time to decorate!
  2. If you have colored icing, then you can easily start decorating your cookies however you would like.
  3. If you don’t have colored icing, you will have to use food coloring to dye the icing how you would like.
  4. Start by separating your icing into different piles so you can have multiple different color icings.
  5. Then, put the dye into the icing and mix it together. Then, you are ready to decorate!

These cookies were so tasty and really fun to make. It is a great activity to do with friends! One thing that I recommend doing, is making sure your cookies are completely cooled, and purchasing colored icing to save all the extra hassle.
