The Robinson Knights Flag Football team took on Northwestern High School on May 16th, 2025, a game deciding who would be the Class 2A state champions. Through a tough-fought battle between some of the state’s best, the Knights came out on top with a score of 42-34.
This is the team’s 10th straight title and their 11th in the past 12 years. The Knights have been unstoppable for many years and they hope to keep up the hard work, a lot of credit can go to longtime head coach Joshua Saunders. The day before the finals, he gained his 300th career win, putting his name into the books for the “winningest” girls flag head coaches of all time. However, his focus is not on his accomplishments but what his players put into every game played. The hard work and dedication of them all is shown through the constant victories year after year.
“I need to remind them that it doesn’t matter how many we’ve won in a row, this is their only one as a group,” Head Coach Saunders said. “This group has to come up to have their special bond together and I think that that’s kind of what motivates me, to make sure that we are always going to give everything to every individual group.”
This group is extra special as it includes some key players to the constant state titles; the seniors in this group have worked so hard to grow the program and leave it better than they found it. They can leave knowing they have created a strong foundation for future and current players. They have won a title every year in high school and they continue to teach the next generation of Robinson Flag Football players
“Winning states and getting the trophy and the medals was the best part for me because it meant that all the hard work payed off,” Running back Brookelynn Curry (’27) said. “This was my favorite season so far because of how we played as a team and the team dynamic throughout.”
This Flag season has been a special one for the entire team from seniors who have been in the program for 4 seasons to the freshman who have never played flag in the past, they all have put effort in this season to making it memorable. The team has really shown what it means to be a Knight, and they continue to live up to the standard that has been set by past flag players.
