The tragedy of September 11, 2001 affected the whole country, and even some of our own students and faculty.

“I was crossing a bridge, going home from New York back when I lived in New Jersey. I was in the car seat, and my dad looked in the mirror and said ‘Oh my God, there’s smoke coming from one of the buildings!’ We just thought it was a small fire.”

~Louise Cardenas, senior.

“I was in my classroom at King High School and it was homeroom. I was watching the TV, stunned, and I didn’t think it was real. The administration came on and asked all the teachers to turn off their televisions. My immediate thought was ‘are my family and friends okay?’ Then, when they hit the Pentagon, I have a cousin who lived and worked by the Pentagon and I didn’t know if he was okay.”

~Barbara Verde, IB English teacher.

“I was driving to middle school ad heard it on the radio, I didn’t realize how big of a deal it was. When I got to homeroom, we watched it on TV. [My family and I] almost left the country because we were scared; we went to Miami and got our passports done.”

~Aline Loges, IB Theory of Knowledge teacher.
