Edit Nov. 11: Due to Hurricane Eta, the blood drive has been postponed to Nov. 18. All other information remains the same. 

The Robinson Parent Teacher Student Association is hosting a blood drive on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at CrossFit Thumbs Up on 6824 S Manhattan Ave. Like previous years, the PTSA is working with OneBlood, a Florida blood donation organization, for the event. Previously, Robinson’s Junior Civitan club has run the blood drive with OneBlood. The blood drive was used as a way to raise money while also giving blood to help OneBlood.

“We wanted to do something that would benefit the community and provide opportunities for our students and families to give back,” PTSA President Ami Welch said.

Currently, the event is being promoted with flyers around school for brick and mortar students, and posts on Instagram and Facebook. The event is open to not only Robinson students, but anyone in the community.

Donating blood is always helpful, considering that someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds. During the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a need for blood donations as the donation rate has fallen, despite the fact that the virus is not reported to be transmitted by blood transfusion.

“I think people have a responsibility to try and help others, and donating blood is a great way to do that—though only if you’re able, of course,” Emma Todd (’21) said. Todd has previously donated blood at Robinson’s OneBlood events.

The event will be Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and appointments can still be made. All donors will receive a ten dollar gift card and a fleece blanket.
