It’s time to make your money to finally get that Homecoming dress or tuxedo that has been saved on your Pinterest board since last year. Yes, you heard me right. As of now, the long-awaited Homecoming dance is going to happen on Saturday, Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at the Tampa Federation Garden Club on Bayshore.
As COVID cases started to rise in many Hillsborough schools, plans have changed and several school events have been either canceled or pushed back. Student Government Association (SGA) has been working day and night trying to put this exciting event together for us. Originally taking place at the DoubleTree Hilton Hotel like in previous years, numerous amount of individuals decided that it was safer to host this event outdoors. Masks will be required at the dance and if you are not feeling well, it is recommended for you to stay home.
“I’m excited because this is my first homecoming! I’m looking forward to having a fun time with my friends and make a great memory,” said Savannah Lax (’24).
Robinson is kicking off their homecoming traditions with their Friday football home at home against Middleton High on Oct. 1. The following week, from Oct.4 to Oct.8, will be spirit week! More information is expected to come for the themes. The week ends with a bam with our homecoming dance. The theme this year will be “Awaken the Knight”, with a mix of medieval and fairytales, incorporating the colors of gold and emerald green.
Homecoming court is also happening this year! Seniors can run for king and queen, Juniors for prince and princess, Sophomores for duke and duchess and Freshmen for count and countess. To apply, you must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be debt-free. Applications can be picked up and turned in to Ms. Hand, the SGA sponsor in room 2204. They’re due by Thursday, Sep. 23 at 3:30 p.m. along with a non-refundable $5. Voting will take place virtually on canvas from Sep. 24 to Sep. 28. See Ms. Hand if you have any further questions.
“I think people should come to this Homecoming because it’s close to the school, it’s going to be a spectacular event and a beautiful venue,” said Ms. Hand, the Student Government Association sponsor. “Everyone would have safe options to either stay inside or dance outside. We are even having our culinary department catering the event and I think it will be a very fun time.”
