Summer playlist playing on Spotify.

When most people think of summer, what’s associated is pure joy and being carefree. Everyone wants to look back on their teenage summers with fulfillment, and these following songs will make you feel like the main character in a summer coming-of-age story.

1.”Sweet Life” – Frank Ocean

Any Frank Ocean song in general is perfect for all seasons, this song just has an upbeat feel along with lyrics mainly about beaches and summer plans. This song is perfect for plans with both family and friends.

2. “Westcoast Collective” – Dominic Fike

“Westcoast Collective” could fit right into Outer Banks, it has both an island vibe and a bit of Weezer. Fike makes perfect beachy music with his retro-sounding guitar and happy melodies. If you like this song I would recommend listening to his album “Don’t Forget About me, Demos.”

3. “Brazil” – Declan McKenna

I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear this song, I’m transported back to summer 2022 when this song was trending. This song gives me major nostalgia and unbridled happiness, I hope it does for you too. The classic guitar riff is just the pinnacle of joy and no school.

4. “Out of My League” – Fitz and The Tantrums

“Out of My League” is the best song for a summer party, the drum beat paired with the cheery instrumentals throughout the chorus definitely helps romanticize your summer. This song makes you want to get up and dance around; it’s so catchy.

5. “What Once Was” – Her’s

This song is one of my personal favorites, I could listen to the opening instrumental all day. One of the key elements of good music on your vacations is a good guitar and Her’s nailed it with this classic riff.

6. “Goodie Bag” – Still Woozy

Still Woozy consistently makes amazing indie-pop, which adds a carefree and low-key vibe to your plans this season. I think that this song is perfect for biking and road trips, it’s chill enough that it feels like background music for whatever you’re up to.

7. “Alright” – Supergrass

This song belongs in an 80’s movie about teenagers. I’ve never heard a song more perfect for encapsulating that teenage nostalgia and joy like this one. I would recommend “Alright” for any occasion with friends, it makes you feel so happy and appreciative to be young.

8. “We Are The People” – Empire Of The Sun

Empire Of The Sun always produces catchy music, but this song specifically makes you feel a way I can’t even express in words, the chorus is so perfectly put together. I love the buildup throughout the song, it starts out a little slow but with the unique instruments as well as the dreamy vocals of the chorus, this song is a 10/10.

9. “Tongue Tied” – GROUPLOVE

“Tongue Tied” is such a summer song, I can’t even listen to it unless I’m off school. The intro just fills you with pure joy and excitement, along with the cheery vocals and lyrics. This song is perfect especially if you’re at a party or out with friends, I would put it on every playlist this season.

10. “Doses & Mimosas” – Cherub

This song is kind of a frat song, but nonetheless I believe that these kinds of songs sum up the carefreeness you can only have when you’re not going to school and hanging out with your favorite people every day. The house-music beat with the catchy chorus creates a peak song for dancing around and partying.

Overall, if you enjoyed these recommendations, there is a playlist linked so that you can enjoy all of the previously mentioned songs as well as a few more summer bangers. Regardless of what music you enjoy, I hope you have a good summer.

Ryan Rolle, Staff Writer
Ryan Rolle is a sophomore at Robinson and a staff writer for the Knight writers. This is her first year on staff.  A bookworm at heart, Rolle joined journalism because she is interested in anything English related. "I’m interested in learning how to write fascinating stories and hopefully get to practice reporting," Rolle said An engaged member of the RHS student body, Rolle is involved in both Knightmare and Book Club. Rolle is a part of Knightmare because she finds school spirit an important aspect of high school. She joined book club because she enjoys reading in her free time.  “In Book Club, I like how instead of reading a specific book, you can be introduced to new books that other people like,” she said. Outside of Robinson, Rolle can be seen practicing basketball as a part of the RHS girls' basketball team. She also just started rowing for Team Tampa. When she is not at school or playing sports, Rolle likes to spend her free time reading her favorite book “Internal Devices” or watching her favorite show “Pretty Little Liars.”  “I enjoy any show that is romantic-comedy or drama," Rolle said.
