Fairgrounds St. Pete is an art and technology museum just outside of Downtown St. Petersburg, Fla. It includes an interactive exhibit filled to the brim with bright colors and flashing lights. This attention-grabbing exhibition is home to eye-catching art created by more than 60 local and international artists.

Now Fairgrounds isn’t your average art installation. It is not a bland building decorated with framed paintings on the walls. It is an immersive, interactive art display. Every room is its own work of art. The art of this exhibit is not confined to canvases but spreads to the whole room.

Fairgrounds is honestly pretty hard to describe. It’s like a collage of different artworks and artists that creates a very chaotic and colorful environment. Each room within the exhibit is different and every room is completely decked out. The rooms don’t house the artwork, they are the artwork.

Although it may seem a little overwhelming at first, it is definitely an experience like no other.

The immersive exhibit is disguised as a mermaid motel. It includes a hot pink motel bedroom and a sea-themed reception area with a front desk.

Upon arrival, visitors are given the option to purchase a standard ticket or participate in the Searchlight Hunt – the installation’s scavenger hunt. If you decide to choose the latter, you will be given a UV flashlight which will be used to uncover hidden numbers to unlock a new art installation.

However, if you decide not to opt for the scavenger hunt, you still have many opportunities to interact with the art display. The workers encourage you to touch as many buttons and hit as many switches as you can. For example, when you enter the mermaid motel’s reception area, you can see a bell on the front desk. When rung, this bell lights up and high squeaks.

All in all, Fairgrounds is a must-visit if you are in or around the St. Pete area. It’s playful and entertaining for all visitors regardless of age. And even those who resent art museums will have a blast.
