Team Battles Despite Injuries

A coach’s worst nightmare was to lose their impact players right before a big season. That exact scenario happened to Tomas Montero, coach of the wrestling team.

But all hope was not lost.

“So far the season has been good,” said Montero. “Even though we don’t have a

full team as a result of football and injuries.”

Wrestlers Jeremy Andujar (’13), Damien McKinzie (’13), and Christopher Rodriguez (’13) all suffered from

injuries, and they all happened to be both upperclassmen and impact wrestlers. Two of the athletes hurt themselves before the actual season started.

But, did this stop the seemingly unbeatable force of our wrestling team? Not a chance.

“Our underclassmen definitely rose up to make up for our missing wrestlers,” said Montero when reflecting

on his recent wins.

The team took home a victory at the Dunedin Invitational and came in fifth place at the Kiwanis tournament.

“Some of the newest kids are the ones that work the hardest,” said Luis Peguero (‘14), speaking highly of his newer teammates. “They realize that with hard work and determination, it can all be theirs.”

Combining those elements at the fast approaching state championship will be imperative to bringing home a victory.

“I think this is the year to win,” said Peguero. “Just because of the amount of talent we have on the team this year.”
