After their first win of the season against Blake on Tuesday, the Knights (1-4) fell 66-41 to Jesuit (4-1) on Friday, Dec. 8.

The Knights had a promising first half. They quickly learned how to break the Tiger’s zone-defense with good, consistent ball movement and were able to get good shots off by spreading the defense. They were only down by two points leaving the first quarter.

The Knights had a similar second quarter with shots falling and consistent rebounding. Their defense held the Tigers to only 14 points at the half with the Knights trailing by one.

“They weren’t hitting their shots,” Quinton Lane (’19) said. “So we were getting more momentum off of their missed shots.”

But the start to the second half looked like a completely different game.

The Tigers stepped up their offense. Their momentum grew with their field goal percentage. They played a quick-moving offense while the Knights were getting out hustled to the three point line.

“They’re used to the court,” Lane said. “They’re a team full of shooters… and we weren’t getting to them fast enough.”

The Knights trailed 45-34 at the end of the third quarter.

“Unfortunately… we had a lot of turnovers in the third quarter,” head coach Steve Smith said. “Once Jesuit gets a ten point lead on you, it’s really tough to come back.”

The Tigers ended the night with nine steals and nine three pointers, with no single dominant shooter. Meanwhile, point guard John Garrett (’18) was Robinson’s only three point shooter of the night, closing the game with five three pointers.

But it wasn’t enough. The Knights left the court losing 66-41.

“All we are going to do is continue to get better,” Smith said.

The Knights face Middleton (0-3) on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at Robinson (6311 S. Lois Ave, 33616).
