The Robinson swim team is ending its season off strong with wins in districts and regionals. Now, it prepares for states, the biggest meet yet.
The team has been preparing by decreasing the length of its practices and increasing the speed to condition the athletes for faster times.
“We train in the mornings for an hour and a half each day during the school week and we all train hard for endurance sets while working on our technique and form. Leading up to states we have focused more on team cohesion for relays to ensure our team is ready,” said top swimmer and Senior Captain Avery Hawker.
On Nov. 3, the swim team will drive up to Ocala to compete in events for states and the swimmers are projected to bring home medals.
“We’re actually doing really well this year [even though] we lost a couple of seniors, but our team is still really fast. Most of them are juniors so we should do well next year too,” Harrison Chang (’26) said.
A large portion of the team is in relays for states meaning teamwork is vital for good races.
“We have 11 people going to states, nine of us who are on relays. I am swimming the 100 fly and the 500, and the 200 free and 200 medley relay. Personally, my goal this year is just to have fun. It’s my senior year so I’m just going to swim my hardest and trust that my work has paid off. I think our team has already accomplished a lot. I think all our relays can place top eight,” Hawker said.
The team dynamic is cohesive and enthusiastic where swimmers form strong relationships with their coach, Lindsay Rubenstein, and teammates.
“Our coach, Ms. Rubenstein, gives us pointers on how to correct our form and how to swim faster and my teammates really help me improve as a swimmer,” Chang said.
The swim team will compete for their titles on Friday at states with their motivated swimmers and their ambitious team spirit.
