The Getaway sign off of the Gandy bridge

With spring break coming up, there’s nothing better than beach vibes, relaxation and great food and The Getaway is perfect for all three.

With a casual beach-y atmosphere, The Getaway is a great place to go for a fun spring break outing. The St. Petersburg restaurant has a simple but delicious seafood and burger menu, and provides a lovely view of the bay while giving off an escape-from-reality feeling.

On my adventures to the Getaway, I’ve tried three of their sandwiches, the Grown Up Grilled Cheese, Soft Shell Crab, and Cuban all of which were good but I’d have to say my favorite is the grilled cheese. While it’s not the most tropical food, the sandwich is surprisingly filling and has a great mix of cheesy flavors.

Because the restaurant is right across the Gandy bridge and secluded in a small area surrounded by mangroves, I had actually driven past it tons of times and always thought it was just a bait shop or a small bar. I never realized it was a restaurant!

Urban kai paddle board rentals are available on The Getaway property, just outside the restaurant

The atmosphere of The Getaway however is probably my favorite part. The restaurant is right on the water and has a beautiful view of the mangroves and marina. When you walk in from the sandy parking lot, the first thing you see is the tiki hut dining area and bar which overlooks the water and leads down to a sand covered area with beach chairs where patrons can enjoy a drink and the view.

Aside from the atmosphere and food, The Getaway also and shares its location with Urban Kai, which offers kayak and paddle board rentals. A paddle board adventure tour with Urban Kai and then a relaxing lunch at the Getaway would make for a fun and inexpensive spring break activity.

Overall, I was very impressed with The Getaway and although its not a new restaurant, it is still a great place to escape and have a good time.
