Billie Eilish is a standout artist and tries to sit outside of modern labels for music. With her songs not standing in any specific genre, Eilish’s music has truly brought something to the world that no other artist has. With her new album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go,” Eilish shows off her out of the ordinary style and amazing talent.

Written by Eilish herself,  the album begins by playing a clip of Eilish and her brother messing around in the studio, Billie announces her album in the clip by saying “I have taken out my Invisalign is out [sic] and this is the album.” This brought a sense personality and made Eilish and her music more personal. The informal beginning of the album was something that was unique to Eilish and I can’t think of a better way for her to start her album.

The album contained a few already released singles of Eilish including “bury a friend,” “wish you were gay,” “when the party’s over” and “you should see me in a crown.” All had a different sound and message while still managing to maintain Eilish’s general style.

Something that stands out about Eilish’s album is her ability to write such unique songs. She somehow manages to discuss deep and controversial topics with a spooky and dark tone, while also maintaining a silly and lively side. In her song “my strange addiction,” Eilish does just this by including clips from “The Office.”

The album ends on a touching note with three songs, “listen before i go,” “i love you” and “goodbye.” Eilish intended to finish off the album with songs that made a sentence and had a message, and she succeeded. With the last three songs having touching topics like suicide and loss, Eilish once again connected to her broad spectrum of fans, and ended on a note that is unforgettable.

Although Eilish writes about dark and sinister topics, she finds a way to make her music something that girls and guys of all ages can relate to and enjoy. “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go” raised the bar not only for Eilish, but for everyone releasing music.
