How to shop locally for the holidays

Expand the horizons of your holiday shopping and buy from local businesses here in Tampa!

Zoe Thaxton, Staff Writer

The holidays are just around the corner and everyone will soon begin their scramble to buy presents for family and friends. Now, it could be easy to take a quick trip to Target or the mall and get your presents there. But, where’s the fun in that? Large corporations may have the name-brand item you’re looking for, which is fine, but this holiday season buy from your local boutiques!

Local boutiques offer all sorts of little trinkets and other ideas for cute gifts for your friends and families this holiday season. Here are some of a few local places to shop:

Crème De La Crème

This cutesy little gift shop is located in the heart of South Tampa. They offer items like bath and beauty products, home accessories (candles, picture frames, things for the kitchen, etc.), and a variety of items for kids (toys, clothes) Those are just the simple basis of what’s in stock. Their products can match any occasion, so Christmas shopping should be a breeze. Even if you don’t know what to get, they offer gift cards to buy, so you can check out the store itself.

Junior League Holiday Gift Market

Junior League of Tampa has hosted a holiday market yearly on the State Fairgrounds. Yet, due to the pandemic, it wasn’t wise to have a marketplace where many people could gather and continue spreading the virus. Going virtual this year, the marketplace sells all sorts of things from clothes, children’s items, jewelry, and even food! Profits go straight to the local businesses participating and the net profit goes back to the Junior League to fund their other projects. The marketplace is only open till Dec. 13th and you need to buy a ticket to have access to the website to shop, but it is worth it.
