I was searching through Spotify just looking for some music to listen to and I see “Luke Combs: new release”. I basically jumped out of my seat from excitement. Luke Combs is in my top five favorite country music artists. His songs “Better Together” and “Forever After” all have been on repeat every time I’m in the mood for country. So, when I saw he had a new release, boy, was I excited.

This country tune, “Put A Lil South on Ya,” is going to be the SEC Network hype song for the college football season. The song mentions several different states (Alabama, Tennessee, Texas) and mascots (Gators and Dawgs).

Combs brings out his deep country roots in this song. One line that stood out to me was, “we got a little dirt road dust runnin’ through our blood.” This line is probably the most southern line in the song and I love it. You can tell he is passionate about what he is singing.

The first time I listened to “South on Ya,” I could already tell it was going to be a great song. It is very upbeat and full of energy. I felt like I could hear the confidence through his words.

The great thing about this song is that it is not about girls and beer, which is what many non country lovers hate about this genre. This song is much different than that. If you are not a fan of country, this still might not be the song for you. It is very much on the country side.

Combs uses his southern accent to tell a unique story. With the mixture of the drums and the guitar, along with Combs’ heavy country rhythm, it creates a perfect song for country fans. As I mentioned before it is going to be the anthem for the college football season. But, it is also about his pride that he has with himself and the south. He sings about his hometown and his “can’t quit heart” that really sets this song apart from others.

Finally, the song ends with Combs’ subtle voice and a little guitar solo. This really concludes the song very nicely. It brings the story to an end. Combs repeats the catchy title a couple times to really draw in the listener and make the song whole.

Overall, I really enjoyed listening to this song. Combs hasn’t released new music for a little while and I was so excited to see he finally dropped a new song. Nevertheless, this song is perfect for country fans or if you want to do a little country jam-sesh in the car. Go and listen to Combs’ new song right now! You won’t regret it!
