As many know, the IT franchise ended with Chapter 2 in 2019. However, a new story takes place 27 years before the events of the first movie, in the form of a television series. We all know that the first two movies ended with a happy ending of defeating the evil alien clown once and for all, with almost none of our main characters dying in the first or second movie. Now it’s a whole different story, and with how the first episode ended, a lot of people can say that Pennywise is not playing around this time as he not only goes after kids but also adults.
When you first click play, you are hit with very jolly tune for an intro, but if you look closer to the opening scene you can see all victims of Pennywise before they actually die in the show. Hopefully later seasons can cover those events. As the episode plays on you are introduced to the main group of kids. You’re introduced to Matty Clements, then Freddy Uris (yes like Stan Uris from the movies,) Lilly Bainbridge, Phil Malkin and his little sister Suzie Malkin.
I wouldn’t say they are the original losers club but in 1962 anyone who isn’t deemed normal are considered outcasts, or in other words losers. We have Lilly Bainbridge who they call ”Looney Lilly,” Teddy Uris who they call ”Teddy Urine” and the others that didn’t have any nicknames mentioned to us in the first episode. Continuing on with how Pennywise is acting in this show without spoiling to those who haven’t seen the first two episodes, I would say that if you were a kid in 1962 in a town named Derry, you weren’t safe anywhere.
I think this show is honestly showing how the kids in the movie had it really easy when dealing with Pennywise. One thing I would say is that I don’t like the suspense of not knowing what’s going to happen for a whole week, since episodes come out every Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO max or Hulu. I can’t wait to see what episode 3 has in store for us viewers, will it be as gory as episode 1 or as mind boggling as episode 2? This show is a must watch if you liked the original movies and if you like a little bit of blood.
