A$AP Rockys new album comes out with pretty high expectations and, in general, it mostly meets them. This work reveals his development as an artist, however, he still maintains that daring sound which initially helped him to get noticed. The production is both smooth and experimental and his lyrics are more intimate and point, centered than in some of his previous works. It is quite evident that Rocky put a lot of time and thought into this record and that dedication is visible in most of the songs.
That said the album is not perfect. While many songs hit hard and feel fresh, a few tracks blend together and do not stand out as much as they should. In my opinion I think that his old songs are more enjoyable than his new songs on the album. Just a bit more of consistency would have been enough to take the album onto another level.
The best song on the album is easily “Order of Protection.” The song stands out because of its smooth and lyrical rhythm. Rocky’s lyrics are sharp and meaningful and the beat matches the tone perfectly without overpowering his voice. It also just matches his vibe more and makes it more likable. “Order of Protection” shows what A$AP Rocky does best when he is fully locked in.
Another good song from that album is “stay here 4 life.” It’s so catchy and has a very nice vibe to it. It’s also his most recent played song and on his top songs. Which proves that it’s a really good song. I really like the way it’s not fast like other rappers and how it’s mostly calm and has a nice vibe to it.
Overall A$AP Rocky’s new album is a solid release that people will enjoy. It proves he is still relevant creative and willing to take risks. While it could be a little bit better with stronger consistency the highlights especially “Order of Protection” make the album worth listening to and talking about.
