Dear Knight Writers,
While in the Journalism room the other day, I got asked by Mr. Brown if I ever go to any of my classes because of how much I am in the back corner of that classroom (I do go to my classes). Only then did I realize how I’ll have to say goodbye to this amazing program in a few days.
I joined the staff during my sophomore year after being an e-Learner my entire freshman year. With my mask up and my neon orange schedule, I walked into the journalism room, ready to go get my schedule changed. However, that did not end up happening and I am so glad I decided to stay as I would not be who I am today without this program.
Not only has being a part of the Knight Writers gotten me more involved in the Robinson community, but I have also grown as an individual. Interviewing strangers has taught me how to step out of my comfort zone, writing stories on sensitive topics has taught me to widen my perspective and weekly 300-word stories have taught me how to find my voice and help others do the same through something I love.
But most importantly, if I took away anything from being on staff, it would be the community within it. From staying up till 5:00 a.m. to finish Issue 1 this year to getting all dressed up for FSPA banquets, my experience wouldn’t have been the same without any of the wonderful individuals I have met during my time on staff.
This is one of the hardest goodbyes I’ve had to say, but I know it is being left in good hands. So good (k)night Knight Writers, thank you for everything.
