I decided to join journalism as a sophomore, not only to pursue a love of writing, but as a way to get to know the Robinson community which I had been somewhat detached from after spending my freshman year online. Looking back, I can confidently say that joining newspaper was one of the best decisions I have made in my high school career.
I was given opportunities to interview CEOs, public officials, community leaders and many students whom I may not have met if I did not need to interview them. I had incredible experiences learning from distinguished journalists as well as teaching the younger staffers to edit and lead (the very same ones who put together this issue). Most importantly, I got to work with my fellow managing editors, Charlotte and Cecilia, who helped me grow both as an editor and a person. They are the largest reason why we did so well this year, and an even larger reason why my years on staff were so joyous.
This is, however, a bitter-sweet moment. After so many years on staff, so many hours spent editing and writing, it is ending so suddenly. Writing this letter, forcing me to reflect on the good ‘ol days as a doe-eyed staff writer, enthusiastic section editor and finally a stoic Co-Editor-in-Chief brings back a flood of memories of times which I wish didn’t have to pass me by. Yet, these times are only precious because they are fleeting.
As I look onto the future ahead, I am eternally grateful that these experiences and friendships forged along the way are a part of me. I can leave high school with no regrets knowing that I will forever be a Knight Writer.
