RHS Knight Writers provide students with a list of important upcoming dates

As April comes to an end, here is an updated list of important days that will end out the fourth quarter.

Seniors can pick up their graduation signs Wednesday, April 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the Student Affairs Office.

Robinson Journalism is hosting an opinion and A&E writing contest for rising freshman and all current underclassmen. Submissions are due April 30. Students must submit their entries through RHSToday’s google form. Students should compose either an opinion or A&E article that meets a minimum word count of 300 words in AP style. The first place winner will be awarded a $25 Chick-fil-A gift card and their article will be published on RHSToday.com. The second and third place winners will also have their entry published on RHSToday.com.

For students in need of CAS hours, RHS PTSA is offering service opportunities at the Gandy Civic Center. Students can sign up for shifts every other Thursday. The shifts take place 4:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Students can sign up online.

RHS PTSA is hosting a student poetry slam. The slam will take place May 4 and May 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. The slam is described by the PTSA as a “morning of spoken word poetry with spoken poet Dennis Amadeus.” The event is free and winners will be awarded cash prizes. The first place poet will receive $100, the second place contestant will receive $75 and the third place winner will receive $50. Sign up using the RHS PTSA website.

April 26-30 is Teacher Appreciation Week. RHS PTSA plans to provide breakfast or lunch each day for the faculty. Donations are needed for the teacher’s “Lucky Duck” drawing. Gift cards, lottery tickets or other similar items are accepted and encouraged. If you are interested in donating, visit the RHS PTSA sign up genius.

CrossFit Thumbs Up is hosting their Free Week of Fitness from April 18-24. No prior experience is needed and anyone is welcome to attend the classes. Check out the class schedule at their website or visit their Instagram @crossfitthumbsup for more information. CrossFit Thumbs Up is located at 6824 S. Manhattan Ave.

The Hillsborough Country Safe and Sound Scholarship application deadline is May 21. To apply, visit their website. Students must be graduating high schoolers to be eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship will award $1,000 to six of the applicants.
