A Spooky Performance from Orchestra and Chorus

Orchestras fall concert performed Thursday night.

Halloween themed Thursday night’s performances by orchestra and chorus were spooky, dark and fun.

A surprising scare was the blood curdling scream from bass player Vivian Gagnier during the combined orchestra’s playing of the classic ‘Curse of the Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space’. Definitely shocking, this scream happened not once, but twice during the song with the music halting and the solo scream erupting. Myself and others enjoyed this part because it added something different and unexpected as well as tying in the scary, Halloween theme.

Another part that many enjoyed was the light and classic performance of the timeless ‘Monster Mash’ by Bobby Pickett was sang by chorus and featured a main solo by Evelyn Puron-Samboni.

A personal favorite performance was played by the RHS advanced orchestra, the Arminian inspired ‘Sabre Dance’. According to Wikipedia, piece was, “…a synthesis of an Armenian wedding dance tune from Gyumri tied in a saxophone counterpoint that seems to come straight frohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyumrim America.” It was theatric, spooky as well as played flawlessly by the members.

One of the advanced orchestra members, Helena Gagnier shared her favorite parts of the night.

“I really enjoyed parts when cellos had the melody in curse of the Rosin eating Zombies,” Gagnier said “And loved performing with my fellow Cello players since they are super amazing and fun!”

Thursday nights performances by chorus and orchestra were a success and it was clear the families and peers in the audience enjoyed the beautiful Halloween theme carried out.
