When very stressed, people start to second guess themselves.

As the end of the school year quickly approaches, the looming presence of finals does as well. Unfortunately, the excitement at the prospect of summer is corrupted by the stress that comes with exams. However, these exams are important, so studying is necessary. Final exams are worth 30 percent of a class’s final grade. On top of this, many of these exams are graduation requirements.

“If [students] don’t take their exams, they automatically fail the course,” Principal Dave Brown said. “That’s the other reason to study, it counts as 30 percent of their final semester grade, so they need to do well and many times the tests are fairly easy and it does help to bring up their grade.”

While finals may seem stressful and overwhelming, there are many things that you can do to make studying easier and more effective. For example, some students find that listening to music while studying keeps them focused and productive.

“I study best when I play calm music, usually instrumental,” Julia Barrett (’24) said. “I have my computer up while I work and I play whatever songs that I think will help me focus the best. My favorite music to listen to while I study is the Bridgerton soundtrack.”
