A big standing ovation is in order for the members of Robinson’s Thespian Troupe 2660 who triumphed all throughout the District 9 Thespy Competition at Blake High School on Oct. 21.

“I am honored to have received a superior for my performance. I spent a lot of time preparing for the competition and I’m glad it all paid off,” said Aurora Stukey (’24), a passionate member of Troupe 2660 who played Daddy’s Son from ‘Ragtime the Musical.’ “I am super excited. With my score I got suggestions on how to improve the caliber of my performance. I can’t wait to perform again, but better.”

Though they may seem flawless on stage, it was all due to their work behind the curtains where they have carefully assembled their stagecraft and worked through the hindrances they had.

“For my duet with Xavier, which will be what I take to the States Competition, we’d actually been planning the performance for around 10 months,” said Jules Narvarte (‘26), another aspiring actor from the Troupe 2660 who won an excellent for his duet with Xavier Magazine (’26), performing Rita’s Confession from “Lucky Stiff’s.” “It was a little on and off due to outside events and exams and all that, but we both spent a lot of time working through our blocking and acting cues over the course of the time…and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out for all the work we put in.”

However, this isn’t the end for Troupe 2660. Troupe members are preparing for their appearance at the Florida State Thespian Competition in March 2024.

“I’ve been rehearsing every day and mentally preparing myself to better understand my role and improve upon the things the judges gave me notes on at [the] district competition,” said Gerard Couture (’26), a Troupe member who won an excellent for his solo musical, “Good Kid” from “Percy Jackson.”

With a stellar performance and notes on how to improve, expectations surrounding Troupe 2660’s next performance are sky high.

“I have pretty high expectations. I know it’s going to be an amazing experience with some really amazing people and I know that we have the capability to bring home superiors!” Magazine said.

Brianna Yasis
Brianna Yasis, Staff Writer
Brianna Yasis is a freshman at Robinson and a staff writer for Knight Writers. This is her first year on staff. Yasis decided to join journalism this year because she wanted to be more involved at Robinson and has always found a passion for storytelling as an avid reader. "I read a lot of books when I was younger and I was told that I can form stories pretty well," Yasis said. Outside of the journalism room, Yasis enjoys fictional books, listening to music and playing volleyball. She also has a strong passion for plants and sea animals. "I prioritize bringing awareness for global warming and pollution that's not only killing the animals and plants but also us," Yasis said. Yasis explores her interests in Marine Biology at Robinson's Marine Biology Club. Her favorite marine animal is a shark and she's eager to learn more about them through her extracurriculars. Yasis is motivated by her family to pursue an education in Marine Biology at a prestigious school. "I want to get into a good university like Yale or Harvard since my mom worked very hard last year to get me and my sister in this country just so we could get a better education," Yasis said. JC Thaxton, Senior Staff Writer
JC Thaxton is a senior at Robinson and a Senior Staff Writer for Knight Writers. This is her second year on staff.  Thaxton is one of the four captains on Robinson's softball team and she's been a captain since her sophomore year. Softball has been an integral part of her life, playing from a young age. She even went to the Junior Little League Softball World Series in summer of 2019, winning first place with her team. "I like softball because it's what I've done since I was four. I just go out there and be myself and I grow while playing. It's very fun and when you're with the right people, it's a very exciting game," Thaxton said. Outside of softball, Thaxton is a member of Knightmare, Key Club and Robinson National Honor Society. While major details aren't set in stone just yet, Thaxton is interested in the medical field and biology, hoping to study those in college. Currently standing in the top ten students in Robinson traditional for class rank, Thaxton's hoping to maintain that position as well as her A's. She's currently balancing work, family, school and her social life and is very much proud of herself for how far she's come. She's a doodler, leaving an art gallery for her fellow journalism students to see when they walk into Room 250. As a writer, her current favorite sections to write are opinions, sports and features. "I like going to the class and seeing my friends and staff that I've bonded with through the years. Also, I really do like writing a story for as much as I struggle with getting a topic and/or getting it on time; seeing the final product feels so good," Thaxton said. (Profile by Juno Le)
