Just Go to Class

Students are repeatedly skipping classes because they simply “don’t feel like it”.

What is going on this year? I don’t know if I am just blinded from what is happening but, why are students constantly leaving school throughout the day? I am not just talking about juniors or seniors, I am talking about people from every grade. When I was a freshman, I was on the verge of being terrified if I left school, even for like a dentist appointment. It could’ve been because I was a little bit of a goody two-shoes, but even now students are acting like going to class is an option. It is not. You don’t get to just say, “oh, I don’t feel like going to class” and just leave. Or at least that’s not what should be happening.

Teachers give instructions to help you do the classwork that’s given out. Then they assign homework on that instruction and then you have a test on all of that. If you miss the instruction that happens in class, you won’t do good on the tests. I believe that is common sense but I genuinely think students don’t realize it. Instruction might seem small in the scheme of things but it actually affects a lot and should not be missed.

Some students that I’ve talked to haven’t been to some of their classes in over a week. When I hear that, I am stunned because I don’t understand their reasoning why. Their reason is simply “because I don’t feel like it”. WHAT TYPE OF LOGIC IS THAT? If I’m being honest, it’s kind of lazy, but I guess that is just our generation. It is going to bite them in the butt once they get into the real world and actually have to work. They won’t get to leave work because they “don’t feel like doing anything”.

Students need to stay in class for the entire day. It is not an option and teachers need to enforce it. The reason students keep doing it is because they are getting away with it. The intelligence behind “not feeling like going to class” is not very high. You can’t just skip the instruction because it will come back to haunt you in the future.
