You’re laying in the summer sun by the pool, drinking fresh lemonade and happily enjoying the freedom of June and July. Suddenly, a dark cloud passes over your mind: back to school.
Every student knows that specific summer feeling of dreading the beginning of school. Even while we’re busy sleeping in, going to the beach or traveling the world over vacation, back to school is there in the back of our minds. Most of us just wish summer would go on forever. But will it really be that bad? There are a few things to look forward to this year that make going back to school more bearable.
- Back to School Shopping- If you’re anything like me, it’s always a little exciting to pick up some new stuff for the upcoming school year. Whether it’s a fresh backpack, a cool outfit for the first day, or even just some school supplies, it always makes gearing up to go back seem a little more fun.
- Friends- Summer is obviously the time to hang out with your friends, but sometimes it can be a little tricky. With everyone on vacation at different times, working or even just the unbearable heat outdoors, getting everyone together can be harder than you’d think. Having everyone at school again will make seeing your friends daily much easier. And even if that’s not convincing, having your best friend in the desk next to you will definitely make class a lot easier.
- Cooler Weather- Speaking of unbearable heat, another thing that back to school brings is fall weather. Personally, I can’t wait for the cool breeze and the chilly air to replace summer’s sticky humidity, not to mention the end of the annual monsoon season. And, of course, festive holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are just around the bend. Autumn is definitely a silver lining on the back to school cloud.
- Sports- On a similar note, the heat receding means that we get to go back to our favorite sports, both in school and out. Although some people still practice over summer break, things definitely ramp up during the fall, and it gets a lot more fun to play when it isn’t 90 degrees outside. Even if you don’t play a sport yourself, it’s always nice to watch your friend’s games or hear about the triumphant wins over the morning intercom.
- Homecoming- Finally, one more thing that I’ll definitely be looking forward to for this fall is homecoming, which is only a little over a month away. Watching the cute homecoming proposals, picking out your outfit, and planning the night with your friends is always something to look forward to. If you’re not planning to go this year, the spirit week beforehand is still something to cheer everyone up.
Going back to school after this summer will be difficult to say the least, but hopefully at least one of these reasons was enough to convince you that it won’t be all bad, and you can finish out your summer without worrying too much.
