Kylie Jenner Lip Challenge: Worth the Risk?

Ashlea Daniels, Staff Writer

Recently, teenagers around the world have taken an interest the Kylie Jenner lip challenge. The challenge involves taking a bottle, or anything similar, putting it on your lips and sucking out the air.

Jenner does not support the challenge, although it was started by her followers in hopes to get their lips similar to hers.

“I’m not here to try & encourage people/young girls to look like me or think this is the way they should look,” said Jenner in a tweet.

Many people have used this challenge as a way to mock Jenner’s lips. A lot of teenagers have been very open in their distaste for the challenge.

“I think it’s stupid because it [restricts] the blood from going to your lips and that’s not a good think. Plus, it doesn’t even look good so I don’t understand why people are doing it,” said Nikki Tu (’18).

However, not all students share such a negative view.

Raquel Revuelta (’17) tried the challenge and saw no harm in it.

“It’s a pretty fun experience,” she said.

Many dermatologists have spoken out about the challenge and the dangers that it holds. Not only can pain, swelling and bruising come from doing the challenge, but there is also the risk of scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts. There been a general consensus among dermatologists that this challenge should not be attempted.
