Lady Knights Win in Four at Durant

After their season-opening win at Sickles on Monday night, the Lady Knights took the court again on Thursday, defeating Durant on the road by scores of 15-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-23.

“I am very confident in this team as we officially start the season,” said team captain Catia Sleet (’16). “We have some new players and plenty of returners, but this group has a lot chemistry and talent.”

A complete performance from Robinson was what it took to beat a talented Durant team. Durant, a program that Lady Knights head coach Christen Garcia won three state championships with as a player, took the first set convincingly, but dropped three straight after that.

Sleet had a career night, picking up a personal-best 23 kills to go with a .310 hitting percentage. Fellow captain Rebecca Hill (’16) also came through with a big night, finishing with 37 assists, one shy of her career high. Emily Draper (’17) also contributed with 20 digs.

“It makes me realize that all the work I’ve put in is worth it,” said Hill. “Even though we have a long way to go, this win gives us all hope.”

The Lady Knights, coming off of back-to-back state final four appearances, believe they have what it takes to make a third straight trip.

“Expect a lot this year,” said Sleet.

Robinson will host Steinbrenner on Monday night in their home opener.
